Meditation through Art Making

The creative process is a form of mindfulness practice. Like any form of spiritual practice, creativity is an inner approach of self-discovery - an attitude of openness that can be harnessed to bring happiness & fulfilment to your life.

The aim of our workshops is to combine eastern wisdom with fun, creative exercises designed to explore your individuality and share your experiences through art making with other like-minded people.

Most people associate 'meditation' with formal sitting practice. Sitting and breathing are simply tools to become aware of the meditative state. The purpose of 'meditation' is to train your mind to rest in that state continually by remaining present in the moment. Art making is a fun way to do this.

Creativity is a legitimate spiritual path to happiness. The benefit of developing your creativity is an ability to adapt to the constant change of modern living. Creativity sharpens the mind where life's challenges are viewed as puzzles to solve rather than insurmountable problems to endure. To live creatively is be free from boredom and to live in joy.

Mindfulness is a means of uncovering and developing your creativity. The practice involves focusing your attention in the present moment - being aware of your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations without judgement but a gentle acceptance of the experience.

The creative process in itself is a practice of mindfulness - a complete immersion of yourself in the moment. In the west the focus tends to be the object of creative process - a finished painting, a song or sculpture. In the east it's the journey of the creative process that is more important where mindfulness is focused on the activity itself.

The scientific benefits of mindfulness to reduce stress is well documented. However, in eastern spiritual traditions, practising mindfulness can take you to enlightenment - to realise your full potential as a human being.
